Here's small shift that changes a lot

Hi Reader,

Before you head into your week, I wanted to give you something you can actually use — a small shift that makes a big difference.

It’s simple, but powerful… and it can genuinely change things when you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in your head.

It’s called state awareness, and it’s one of the most important skills when it comes to understanding your nervous system.

Most of us move through our day reacting to things without even realizing our body has shifted into a different state.

One minute we’re fine… the next we’re spiraling, shutting down, snapping, overthinking, or suddenly exhausted.

And it’s not because we’re dramatic or “too sensitive.”

It’s because our nervous system shifted — and we didn’t notice it happening.

Here’s the part that really matters:

**The moment you notice your state, you can shift it.

The moment you name it, you can work with it.
The moment you understand it, you stop blaming yourself for it.**

This is why state awareness is such a game-changer.

Instead of spiraling, you can pause.
Instead of shutting down, you can soften.
Instead of reacting, you can respond.
Instead of thinking “What’s wrong with me?”
You start thinking…
“Oh, my body is asking for something.”

Here’s a simple way to practice this today:

Ask yourself: “Where am I right now?”

Not emotionally…but physiologically.

Notice your body, how does your it feel?

  • activated?
  • anxious?
  • shut down?
  • frozen?
  • calm but alert?
  • drained?
  • tense?
  • overwhelmed?

Once you name it, choose one tiny supportive action:

  • one deep intentional breath
  • a slow exhale
  • a short walk
  • a sip of water
  • a phone break
  • cool air on your face
  • hand on heart
  • speaking gently to yourself

Supporting your nervous system doesn’t require a full routine — just paying attention and responding to what your body is saying right now.

This is the foundational work that makes everything else in your life easier: your emotions, your choices, your habits, your energy, your relationships, your dreams… all of it.

And it’s a huge part of what I teach inside The Embodied Shift Method — because once you understand your internal world, your external world stops feeling so chaotic.

Reader, I didn’t write a blog post last week. Could I have? Absolutely.Do I have one ready to go? Yep.Could I have scheduled one in advance and checked the box? Also yes. But it didn’t feel aligned for me. Something I’ve noticed about the way I like to share is that most of my content comes from what I’m experiencing in the moment. When I try to force it ahead of time just to stay “consistent,” it starts to feel less real. Less connected. And last week, I was in the salon a lot. New salon...

Hi Reader, I wanted to pop into your inbox a little differently this week. Normally I’m sharing a weekly blog post, but this is the week I'm in the salon. I have barely opened laptop because my energy has been focused on hair, conversations in the chair, and being fully present there. So this is me giving myself permission to not do all the things all the time — and to not beat myself up for it because I’m human. And right now, this is where my energy is meant to be. There will be a blog post...

Hi Reader, Do you ever wake up and feel like your mind is already running ahead of you?Last week, this came up more than once in client conversations and I knew I needed to share it with you too. I wrote a blog post about this practice because it's supportive, especially from a nervous system and subconscious perspective. I share why it works, how I suggest doing it in a way that feels gentle and doable, and what to expect when resistance shows up because let's be real, sometimes it does. If...
